Jim Edgar's task force recommends Immigration changes

 

Chicago - Rafiqul Huq, President of Bangladesh Association of Chicagoland and Ali Ahmed, Member- at- large attended a meeting of Chicago Council on Foreign Relations (CCFR) on June 10,2004 on the invitation Marshall M. Bouton, President of the CCFR at the Chicago Hilton Hotel. The meeting was also attended by 40 Midwestern community leaders and Consulates of India, Mexico & Hondurus.The meeting debated the report of the Task Force that has looked into the

challenges of the immigration to the USA. The task force, Co-Chaired by the former Governor of Illinois Jim Edgar and former INS Commissioner Doris Meissner has worked for nine months to identify the key opportunities and challenges of

immigration to the USA. The task force recommended modification of temporary immigrants to permanent-based categories, backlog reductions and timely processing of visa applications in order facilitate trade, travel, study, legalization of illegal aliens and family reunification. At the end, the lunch was provided to all the guests. This news was published on the Indian Reporter Newspaper on June 18, 2004.
